The Comox Youth Climate Council began in early October last year when the founding members came together at the Comox Marina, and discussed what it would take to become a local youth climate organization.

The CYCC has four different kinds of members and associates:

There are Board Members - who attend weekly meetings and have a role or act as a "wing".

There are Casual Members - who input into the organization as they see fit and are expected to attend some meetings including the AGM.

There are Volunteers - who will help out at future events and hopefully subscribe to our newsletter. Volunteers can be any age.

There are Adult Allies - who are anyone over 25 that wishes to contribute to our organization as they see fit.

Remember - anyone can join a committee!

In general, the CYCC hopes to connect with the rest of the community, and get some important work done.

To do our part fighting the climate crisis to safeguard the future of our planet and its inhabitants.

Ensuring that all are respected, valued, included, treated with kindness and patience as we work and learn together.

Collaborating and incorporating the knowledge of all members as we engage in consensus-based decision-making.

Organizing peaceful and determined actions in the face of the climate crisis.

Condemning any form of violence, discrimination, harassment or bullying.

Advocating for social and climate justice.

Applying the principles of justice, equity, diversity, decolonization, anti-racism, accessibility, and inclusion in all of our work.

Adopting an intersectional framework that considers and incorporates minorities and marginalized groups (BICOP, 2SLGBTQIA+, people with different-abilities, linguistic minorities, etc).

Engaging in dialogue with multiple governments and stakeholders. Including but not limited to: municipalities, all organizations and NFP's, school districts, the K’ómoks First Nation, MLA's, MP's, and political parties.

Educating and raising awareness of the impacts and solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change in our communities.

Creating a long-lasting network of youth passionate about advocating for climate action and justice in the Comox Valley.

Recognizing our role in building relationships of reciprocity and stewardship.
